About the Festival
Founded in 2005, the Newburyport Literary Association, Inc has successfully hosted six literary festivals in Newburyport and is currently working on the seventh.
- We have four primary categories: fiction,
literary nonfiction, poetry and children/ young adult literature.
- With over 70 authors gathering in
Newburyport each year to participate in a weekend of readings and panel discussions there is something for everyone at the festival!
Our mission is to bring together the many segments of our larger community through the celebration of authors and literature in an effort to encourage reading. Each year we support an author-in-residence at one of the local schools and purchase a book for each participating student. In past years we have provided over 700 books to students in an effort to create excitement about literature.
Past authors include literary luminaries from every genre. Anita Shreve, Julia Alverez, Elinor Lipman, Richard Bausch, Peter Orner, Rhina Espaillat, Anne Easter Smith, Tony Horwitz, and, of course our own, Andre Dubus III. to name just a few.
Mark your calendar. The 2012 festival is an event you won't want to miss.
Many individuals and organizations share the vision of the Newburyport Literary Festival. The NLF is especially grateful for the generous support of our founding sponsors, the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank Charitable Foundation and the Institution for Savings, who have made it possible for the festival to take root and flourish.
