Calling All Volunteers!

Volunteers are the backbone of the Newburyport Literary Festival. Their work and dedication assure that the Festival runs smoothly and the attendees enjoy themselves to the fullest.

The Festival offers many volunteer opportunities for individuals as well as for book groups, writing groups, librarians, honor societies, and school service groups.

Section I: Pre-Festival Assistance
 – now through April 25, 2008

Please choose one or more of the following:

 Assist with Events Leading up to the Festival
(send out invitations, ticketing, and other administrative tasks.) 
 Venue Set Up on April 25, 2008
(tables, chairs, equipment, etc.)
 Friday Night Party Set-up (10:00AM-2:00PM)
 Friday Night Ticket Takers & Post Party Clean-up

Please select one or more tasks, and for each task, please choose a time shift (times are approximate). Every effort will be made to honor your requests. However, we may contact you to ask if you would be able to work a different shift depending on the festival’s needs and the number of people who volunteer. Assignments will be confirmed well ahead of the festival, and training will be provided.

How many volunteers
do we need?

Approximately 150 volunteers
are needed to work at the Festival
on Friday, April 25,
from 4:30 pm until 9 pm, and
on Saturday, April 26,
from 8 am until 9 pm.
(The Festival is open to the public
from 9:30 am until 8:30 pm.)

Volunteers are needed for the following activities:

  • Hang booth signs
  • Act as adult coordinators to check in volunteers and to oversee volunteer activities in the Volunteers Room
  • Help set up event venues and Friday-night party
  • Give directions, hand out Festival guides, count attendees
  • Deliver books to events
  • Deliver flowers and messages and run errands
  • Assist in author autograph areas
  • Assist with children’s events
  • Help with clean up
  • Assist facilities crew as needed
